“How to take a selfie,” “know-how of taking a good selfie…”

Related searches to “selfie” on the Internet pop up like the ones above. It’s all about how to make your face look smaller.

The square jaw Botox or the V-line bands, which were popular among the celebrities and everyone heard of, have become social issues for their side effects and misuses.

In other words, now is a world where V-line is a beauty trend. Eyes, nose, and lip shapes are of diversity, but at some point, a small face has become a certain beauty standard.

“I need facial bone reduction, right?”

This is the first question that the patients visiting the clinic ask. Facial bone contouring surgery seems to be known as a necessary procedure for a slim, small face.

Is facial contouring surgery a requirement for a slim, small face?

Facial contouring surgery is removing parts of the bone for a proportionate look, which is composed of three types: cheekbone reduction, genioplasty, and squared jaw reduction called as the “3-set facial contouring.”

The components that take up the most volume on the face include bones, muscles, and fat. There are various reasons for chubby and square face, but facial contouring surgery is removing the bones.

Then which part is the most dangerous to remove? Of course, anyone can guess that the most challenging and hazardous treatment is removing the bones from the deepest. However, a bone reduction is the first thing we think of when wanting to make our faces smaller.

If the bones come right on sight because you don’t have fat nor developed muscles on your face, then, of course, cut off the bones. If not so, of course, it won’t do much.

Even if you‘ve lost a lot of weight, would people recognize you’ve lost weight when you are wearing a thick, duck-down parka? For people with developed muscles and fats, removing the bones does not help since it is hidden. Instead, it is much better to reduce muscles or fats.

So how can you tell which one you need to remove? I’m now to introduce the ways to examine without using expensive diagnostic equipment easily.

First, look straight in the mirror and raise your index fingers. Put your index fingers slightly on the edge of your jawbone under your ear. If your face becomes smaller and slimmer, then the reason for your square face is the bone.

If not, then put your fingers on the corners of your jawbone under the ear and tighten your jaw. If you feel your muscles contract and expand, and you can see it while facing the mirror, then injecting Botox on your jaw muscles helps.

Otherwise, pinch the skin thickly between the corner of the mouth and jawline with your fingers. What will be grabbed is the subcutaneous fat, and if this covers the jawline, then the cause is the natural elongation of your cheek fat.

Now, let’s look at the cheek.

If you are concerned about the side of your face, look straight in the mirror and pinch the cheek skin as deeply as possible using your thumb and index finger. The thickness of the skin is the thickness of the subcutaneous fat. This volume is reducible by losing fat. If there is hardly any skin to grab, then the problem is the bone.

When you examine yourself, there not many cases where bones are the causes. In other words, if you control your muscles, fats, and skin without reshaping the bones, you can make your face small enough.

Besides, reducing the size of your muscles or fat is way safer and faster to recover than bone removal. I often come across sad stories of how patients revisit the clinics for seeing no significant differences or wanting fat removal after having facial contouring surgery.

Should you never have facial contouring?

Certainly not. Facial contouring surgery is the most effective and fundamental surgery for those with angled or protruding cheekbones. However, you should carefully determine since the risks and side effects are relatively severe.

Aside from the severe side effects such as nerve damage, dysesthesia, and asymmetry, resecting the bone too much can cause collapsed axis and saggy skin and fat commonly appear. Hence, the surgery should be the ultimate procedure that is performed when necessary, rather than being the first treatment that is easily operated.

“Too much is as bad as too little,” this is what I often say to my patients. The desire to become beautiful is endless, yet a wise moderation is necessary for our decision.

Just as overspending at homes and in society damages the economic safety, excessive consumption in beauty hurts our bodies. Remember to choose a treatment that considers safety, fast recovery, and simplicity in the first place under accurate diagnosis is key to protecting real beautifulness.
