Literally indicating "transcending sound waves," Ultrasound is a periodic sound wave with a frequency that exceeds the maximum audible limit for the ear.

It is also recognized as 'Sonar' as a detector for marine exploration or military purposes. Still, as a doctor, medical Ultrasound, extensively utilized in the diagnosis area of ​​various departments, is the most familiar to me.

When I was a medical student, I was taught that it is safe diagnostic equipment related to fetal examination as it does not emit radiation like X-rays or CT. Now, as a professor of dermatology, I am more likely to interject it as a device to treat skincare by burning wrinkles and fats since high-intensity-focused Ultrasound (HIFU) has emerged.

■Company Introduction

Newpong is a start-up company founded in 2015 that develops, manufactures, and markets medical devices for practice using Ultrasound.

Focusing on not only the sales but also the product improvement, it has patents related to several ultrasonic treatment devices, such as 'ultrasound generation system and its control method' and striving to grow into a promising ultrasonic treatment equipment company based on competitive technology.

With the slogan of 'New Wave for Beautiful Life,' this company has steadily been innovating, under the founding philosophy of promoting product enhancement with the question 'why?' to present happiness to customers with productive thinking. And now it exports to countries around the world, including the US and Europe.

From 2021, it is also working to accelerate domestic sales through the non-face-to-face digital marketing in the Covid-19 pandemic.

■Product features

Unlike diagnostic ultrasound, therapeutic ultrasound must deliver strong power.

Newpong is operating hard on product advancement by focusing on two methods: The Bolt Clamped Langevin Type Transducer (BLT) process, which puts a donut-type piezoelectric element between metal blocks and tightens it to make a sandwich-like form, and the High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) method, which extends the intensity by gathering weak ultrasonic waves in one place.

In addition, having developed a system that detects frequencies in real-time and maintains a constant output at all times, it introduced it under the name of 'Deep Sono Algorithm.'

■Current Task

In the meantime, we have been concentrating on overseas sales. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, in-person interview abroad has become challenging, but this hardship also opened up the new door. We included digital marketing through SNS and stabilized our internal strength by committing to product development. Then we were able to develop upgraded equipment like Elsa as a more favorable opportunity.

Although there are inadequate research papers now, because Elsa was recently released into the market, we are looking forward to better outcomes, based on the many good reviews, mainly from plastic surgeons and dermatologists.

We are conducting research with several university professors, and many conforming papers will be published soon.

■Future Plans

Newpong prioritized the accumulation of ultrasonic source technology.

With the belief that the best in Korea is the best in the world market, we endeavor to become one of the best ultrasound therapy device manufacturers to deliver happiness to our customers.

■New pong from a view of the writer

The company name ‘Newpong’ which reminds me of dishwashing detergent was totally new to me. New in ‘ewpong’ definitely means new but what about pong? When I met CEO Lee Jae-yong, the first question was, “What does “Pong” mean?” While expecting a profound answer, I heard a straightforward answer. It is an onomatopoeia made after the pong, the sound you hear when water drops fall.

When I had doubts that it was too much of a joke about the name of a company, I heard a more elaborated explanation.: Newpong is a company that was established to dig only one well called Ultrasound. And he continued, "The word 'pong' is used to represent not only the sound of water falling but also the wave generated by the falling water. As an ultrasound research company, I think this word is the best representation of our company's identity." He highlighted the company's tenets by saying," It also embodies the aspiration to create a new wave in the global ultrasound medical device market.". We support the aspiration of CEO Jaeyong Lee to deliver happiness to customers by creating the best ultrasound company.
