LASEROPTEK Chairman Hong (second from the left) has been selected as the sole recipient of the Presidential Commendation in medical devices for skin aesthetics at the 16th Medical Device Day event.

According to LASEROPTEK, Chairman Hong received the Presidential Commendation at the 16th Medical Device Day event held on the 26th.

The Medical Device Day event is a prestigious event related to medical devices in Korea, organized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and hosted by the Korea Medical Device Cooperative Association. It has been held annually since 2008 to commemorate the enactment and proclamation of the Medical Device Act in May.

This year's event took place under the slogan "Digital Era! Healthy Future! Safe K-Medical Devices Lead."

At the event, Chairman Hong was recognized for his contributions to the advancement of the K-Beauty industry and the medical device industry through the successful localization of the first domestically produced laser device for cosmetic purposes, continuous technological development, and exports in the field of skin aesthetic medical devices, making him the sole recipient of the Presidential Commendation in this field.

After obtaining a Ph.D. in laser physics, Chairman Hong was a senior researcher at the Applied Optics Research Lab at KIST(Korea Institute of Science and Technology), dedicating himself to laser research and development. In 2000, he founded LASEROPTEK as a research institute venture and grew it into one of the leading domestic companies in skin aesthetic medical devices.

He independently developed PALLAS, a solid-state UV laser with a wavelength of 311nm, which is the first in the world for the treatment of psoriasis and vitiligo and received awards such as the "2019 Korea Technology Award" and the "2020 Monthly Industrial Technology Award" with the PicoLO laser.

In addition, he has served as the chairman of the Dermatology and Aesthetics Convergence Committee of the Korea Medical Device Industry Association and the Special Committee for Beauty Medical Devices, making efforts to develop the medical device industry. He has also authored "Principles and Applications of Medical Esthetic Lasers."

Chairman Hong stated, "At the time of LASEROPTEK's establishment, our country was virtually a barren land for skin lasers, but now we are leading the global market. I want to contribute, even if only a little, to the development of the industry and the country."

LASEROPTEK was selected as a global small and medium-sized enterprise in recognition of its technological capabilities and potential in 2020.

It is currently preparing for listing on the KOSDAQ market. It is dedicated to research and development to become one of the top three global medical laser companies within five years.

Last year, it received the $10 million export tower award, and its sales revenue exceeded 30 billion won, maintaining steady growth.
